Share your piece of something wild
Imagine having 2,000 acres located in the middle of Dakota County to enjoy a favorite outdoor activity in the wild. Then imagine having the opportunity to shape parts of that space for the future. That’s what Dakota County is offering to its residents.
Dakota County parks staff will host an open house at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 5–8 p.m. to discuss potential plans for the area surrounding the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center in Lebanon Hills Regional Park.
The open house provides residents an opportunity to learn about and discuss potential park improvements including a redesigned parking area, enhanced trails, shade for a sitting area adjacent to the beach, and new creative play areas for kids. Staff is also looking at the possibility of creating gathering and performance spaces. Short presentations will take place at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to provide an overview of the project.
All of these potential improvements are part of phase two of the planning process for the park, which is funded by a $750,000 grant from the Metropolitan Council and a $378,000 grant provided through the Outdoor Heritage Fund financed by the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
Lebanon Hills Regional Park is the County’s most popular park with more than 400,000 visitors per year. It is centrally located within the County, serves as the hub for a variety of parks programs and includes winter and summer trails, rental facilities, a campground and more. The Lebanon Hills Visitor Center is known for its green building features and serves as a trailhead for the rest of park. In the surrounding area, parks staff offer equipment rentals such as canoes and kayaks or skis and snowshoes. It is also the home of the popular Schulze Beach.
