Historic Dakota County site needs your vote
In tiny Waterford Township (population 589) there sits a picturesque iron bridge. Crossing the Cannon River, built in the early 1900s, this bridge, known as the Waterford Iron Bridge, needs your support.
American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation have chosen 25 historic places in the Twin Cities area to participate in Partners for Preservation, a philanthropic program that encourages members of the community to vote on Facebook for the local historic places they want to see receive preservation funding.
The Waterford Iron Bridge is one of the 25. Here's how you can support Waterford Township. Beginning Sept. 20 and continuing through Oct. 12, go to the Partners in Preservation Facebook page (www.facebook.com/partnersinpreservation) and click on “Waterford Iron Bridge” to vote. You can vote once a day, every day.
Once the voting concludes, the historic place with the most votes is guaranteed its full grant request. Then, American Express, National Trust for Historic Preservation and an advisory committee of local civic and preservation leaders will determine how the rest of the one million dollars will be awarded.
