Carver County Man Charged with Theft from Non-Profit Group
[July 22, 2010]  Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Mario Cortolezzis, age 36 of Waconia, has been charged* with four counts of Theft and four counts of Theft by Swindle (all felonies), in connection with using his position as Executive Director to steal in excess of $29,000.00 from SAFERS (Search and Find Emergency Responders), a non-profit organization serving autistic and Alzheimer patients in Carver County. These thefts are alleged to have occurred from 2008 to 2010. Several members of the Carver County Sheriff’s Office serve in a private capacity as members of the SAFERS organization’s Board of Directors. Dakota County is handling this case for Carver County to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest.
