Relatives Charged for Stealing from Crime Victim's Fund
Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Jeffrey Allen Stewart, age 43 of South St. Paul, and Jodi Ann Stewart, age 40 (address unknown), have each been charged* with one felony count of Aiding and Abetting Theft by Swindle in connection with taking funds raised for the benefit of a violent crime victim. It is alleged that acting together these individuals took a total of $2,500 from a benefit account created to benefit a 19-year-old victim badly burned in an incident in St. Paul on July 20, 2011. The monies were taken from banks in South St. Paul and Woodbury. Jeffrey Stewart is the uncle of the burn victim and Jodi Stewart is the burn victim’s mother.
