Man Sentenced in Scheme to Blackmail Teachers and Coaches
[January 2, 2009]  Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Eric Leroy Syverson, age 39 of Eagan was sentenced today to 180 days in jail, 5 years probation and a $300 fine by Judge Katherine Messerich in connection with a plan to blackmail 22 teachers and coaches in various Dakota County schools. Syverson also was ordered to write letters of apology to the victims in this case and complete a psychological and cognitive skills evaluation. Syverson pleaded guilty on September 30, 2008 to one count of Conspiracy to Commit Coercion (a felony). The case against co-defendant Joseph Aaron Schultz, age 21 of Bloomington, is pending.
