Division Head: Jay R. Stassen
- Assists the County Attorney in advising and representing the County Board of Commissioners and other County departments on civil legal matters
- Provides legal advice to County officials on:
- Contracts
- Labor Law
- Environmental law
- Real estate acquisition
- Data privacy
- Represents the County in all civil litigation in which the County is involved
- Initiates civil litigation on behalf of the County to:
- Acquire land for road improvements
- Protect the environment by enforcing County solid and hazardous waste ordinances
- Obtain civil judgments for welfare fraud
- Forfeit property used in connection with a crime
- Initiates petitions to protect abused or neglected children or vulnerable adults
- Initiates involuntary commitment actions to provide treatments for individuals who are mentally ill, chemically dependent, or mentally handicapped.
