Sentencing to Service
Adult offenders may be court ordered to participate in Sentencing to Service (STS) which provides supervised work crews of non-violent offenders to area non-profit agencies and local government entities.  Offenders work on crews in lieu of jail time or fines; offenders incarcerated at the Dakota County Jail may also participate in STS to reduce their jail time.

The Court uses STS as a alternative to jail, and as a means to repair some of the harm to the community caused by offender crimes.  The program also helps offenders re-connect to their communities in a positive manner.  There are two types of STS crews:

  • Community STS Crew - offenders will need to attend an orientation meeting and pay a fee of $11.00 per STS day.  Additional fees may apply.

  • Jail STS Crew - offenders receive time off of jail sentences and have jail stay fees ($20.30/day) waived by participating on the Jail STS Crew.  Offenders waiting for jail report date can fill out the application (see below) and submit it prior to incarceration.
