Staff in the Office of Planning & Analysis develops, analyzes, and evaluates information to continuously improve the programs and services that Dakota County provides. Office of Planning and Analysis staff also provide long-range and strategic land use planning and research services to promote a high-quality physical environment for Dakota County.

The Office of Planning & Analysis’ mission is “bridging today and tomorrow with planning and analysis to improve residents’ lives and their government.”

The Office of Planning & Analysis helps its business partners to:
  • Understand trends and anticipate issues of importance to residents and for County service delivery
  • Measure the success of programs and projects
  • Improve how we do business in Dakota County
  • Apply land use planning concepts and approaches in transportation, transit and parks development projects
  • Find best practices and innovations to apply to service delivery
  • Support advisory and collaborative groups by providing staff resources and conducting presentations
The Office of Planning & Analysis strives to provide the best products and services in planning and management analysis to lead Dakota County government in meeting its mission of efficient, effective, responsive government.

Dakota County’s former Office of Planning, Evaluation and Development merged in mid-2008 with two other planning offices in Dakota County: the Office of Planning in the Physical Development Division, and the Community Services Planning Office in the Community Services Division. The new team, called the Office of Planning and Analysis, is part of Dakota County’s Operations, Management and Budget Division.
