On November 16, 2007, over 80 Dakota County community leaders participated in a one-day summit to identify strategies to prevent and reduce childhood obesity in the County. Summit participants included elected officials, school administrators, childcare directors, physicians, dietitians, food service managers, park and recreation staff, public health staff, and community members. Key recommendations included:
Two overall goals were identified to prevent and reduce childhood obesity in Dakota County:
- Promote healthy eating and physical activity habits for all residents, with an emphasis on parents of pre-school and elementary school-aged children.
- Advocate for policies that support an environment that encourages healthy nutrition and increased physical activity.
