Metro Adult Health Survey
In 2010, residents in Dakota County and five other counties in the Twin Cities metro area participated in the Metro Adult Health Survey. A total of 3,150 people responded to the survey, including 530 Dakota County residents.
Facts about the Metro Adult Health Survey
- The Metro Adult Health Survey was a collaborative effort by six Twin Cities county health departments to collect data on adult health behaviors and health status.
- The local public health agencies of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, St. Paul-Ramsey, Scott, and Washington counties are the sponsors of the Metro Adult Health Survey. (Hennepin County did not participate because it conducted a similar survey in 2010.)
- The data will be used by local public health agencies to prioritize health needs in each county and design programs and services to meet the needs of residents.
- The survey includes information on these topics:
- Characteristics of the survey sample: gender, age, education, race and ethnicity, poverty status and home location
- General Health: health status, chronic disease conditions, health concerns, weight status
- Eating Habits: fruit and vegetable consumption, sources of food, eating habits, barriers to healthy eating
- Physical Activity: frequency and intensity of exercise, location(s) for physical activity, barriers to being active, screen time.
- Your Neighborhood and Community: walkability, crime, traffic, transit, access to fruits and vegetables, distance to food sources, community resources for physical activity

- Tobacco Use: smoking status and history, smoking cessation attempts, tobacco products use, exposure to smoke
- The Metro Adult Health Survey was made possible through funding from the Minnesota Department of Health’s Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP).
