Purpose:
- Managed by the Investigation Division, the property system is in place to effectively track all items seized by members of the Sheriff’s Office, excluding jail inmates
Goals:
- Provide a detailed accounting of each article in the system to the court to comply with the “Chain of Custody” mandate
- Safely store and dispose of the wide range of seized items, many of which are considered “biohazards”
Picking Up Evidence:
- You must be the owner of the property or have written permission from the owner to retrieve the item(s)
- Having possession of the item(s) cannot be illegal
- The court process of the case must be totally completed
- You must contact the deputy who seized the item(s) from you and, if the deputy agrees to return the item(s) to you, the deputy will provide written authorization to the Evidence Technician to release the items
- Once the Evidence Technician has been given written authorization to release the item(s), please call the Evidence Technician at (651) 438-4720 to make an appointment to come to the Sheriff’s Office to receive the property
