Death Certificates
Death Certificates are currently available at six Dakota County locations:

 How do I get a Death Certificate?

You can purchase a certified copy of a death record for anyone who died in Minnesota from 1997 to present.  Prior to 1997, records are available for those who lived or died in Dakota County.

Death record books from 1870 through 1945 are available for viewing at the Northern Service Center.   

For other Minnesota death records, contact the Minnesota Department of Health.   Additional information can be found at the Minnesota Historical Society's website.

In Person:

    • Show tangible interest by filling out a Death Certificate Application
    • Bring the unsigned form and fees to one of our six locations listed above
    • Show proof of identity, such as a driver’s license or passport
    • A deputy registrar will witness your signature

By Mail:

Fees:

    • $13.00 First Certified Copy
    • $6.00 Each additional Certified Copy of the same record issued at the same time
    • We do not accept credit or debit cards
