Drivers License - Renewal or Duplicate
How To Obtain
You can renew or apply for a duplicate Minnesota Driver's License or Identification Card, in person, at the Administration Center, the Burnsville License Center or the Lakeville License Center.

Duplicates
Issued to replace a lost or stolen Driver's License or Identification Card.  They may also be issued  for address/name changes.  To apply for a Driver's License or Identification card you may present:

  • A Minnesota  driver's license or Identification card that is current or expired for five years or less if it has a photo - OR - one year or less if it does not have a photo. 

Note: The Robert Trail License Center only handles duplicates - "Limited"

Renewals
Require the applicant to take a vision test and have a photo taken. Proper identification must be presented.

Note: Dakota County License Centers DO NOT offer written or "behind-the-wheel" driver's license testing. Check the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Division of Vehicle Services Web site or call 651-284-1000 for locations, hours, services and fees.

Required Forms
The Driver's License/Identification application form is available at the Administration Center, the Burnsville License Center or the Lakeville License Center

Required Identification
Go to the Minnesota Department of Vehicle Services Web site then click on "ID Requirements" for current rules on required identification.

Required Fees

  • Duplicate - $13.50
  • Renewal - Varies by license class and endorsements
