Except during Spring Load Restrictions, Dakota County highways are restricted to 9 ton per axle except for County Road 81, which is restricted to 7 ton per axle from County State Aid Highway 66 to State Highway 50 north of Hampton. The bridge on County Road 85, south of New Trier is posted to a max weight of 64,000 Lbs.
Oversize Vehicle Permit is required for any vehicle that does not meet the state weight standards. These permits can be obtained online at the County’s Web site.
Spring Load Restriction Periods Reduced weight restrictions are placed on the weights per axle on some County highways during the spring months. Restriction periods can last anywhere from four to eight weeks. During that time, Oversize Vehicle permits cannot be purchased online until the restrictions are lifted. Permit applications will still be accepted, by office visit, mail or fax.
2011 Spring load restrictions for the metro area ended on Monday, May 2nd at 12:01 am.
