Land Conservation

Facts for Landowners

Participation in the Dakota County Farmland and Natural Areas Program (FNAP) is voluntary. The program allows Dakota County landowners to be paid for the development value of their land in exchange for a permanent conservation easement over the land. The easement prevents the land from ever being developed.

For landowners interested in applying for the program, there are separate criteria for property used as farmland and property that is a natural area.
