Energy
Building and maintaining energy-efficient buildings, operating fuel-efficient vehicles, and increasing recycling are just a few of the energy saving initiatives underway in Dakota County. The County’s Energy Plan includes goals that focus on a variety of ongoing energy-saving priorities.

Dakota County was the first county in the state to complete a greenhouse gas inventory, measuring the amount of greenhouse gases produced by county operations. This inventory will serve as a baseline to help guide County efforts to improve energy and fuel efficiencies, promote alternative transportation, and explore renewable energy options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money.

Understanding your own energy use
The County’s Energy Plan also includes a energy use and greenhouse gas inventory that can help the cities within the County and residents understand their own energy use patterns and emissions. Details are available on the 2009 Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Webmap.

Residential energy use accounts for 21 percent of energy consumption in the U.S. Understanding how you use energy in your home can help you reduce energy use and save money.
