There are more than 10,000 businesses in Dakota County and most of them generate hazardous waste. All generators of hazardous waste—including home-based businesses—must be licensed by Dakota County. In addition, all hazardous waste must be sent to a
licensed/permitted disposal company or recycler. Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQGs) can bring their waste to a
VSQG collection site.
Dakota County Ordinance No. 111 – Hazardous Waste Regulation outlines the county's requirements for who needs a license, the process for obtaining a generator license and the actions taken in the event of violations.
