The Gathering Center in the Spring Lake Park Reserve was designed and built to capture the view of the Mississippi River bluff while providing an exceptional space for park visitors. Architects have called it a “living building.”
Sustainable building features of the Schaar’s Bluff Gathering Center include:
- Light sensors interactively monitor lighting levels, saving energy
- On-site wind turbine generates electricity for building energy needs
- Over half of construction waste was recycled, reusing our resources
- Rainwater is captured in underground cisterns and used for flushing toilets, reducing water use
- Toilet partitions and countertops made from 100 percent recycled products, reusing our resources
- Water-based, low-VOC sealers and paints, improving indoor air quality
