County Road 50 and County Road 60 Project, Lakeville
CSAH 50 and CSAH 60 are both currently two-lane undivided highways which are projected to carry over 25,000 vehicles by the year 2030. The intersection of these two highways is currently controlled with a traffic signal and is already experiencing operational challenges. A thorough analysis of needs of the intersection and evaluation of alternatives including signal and round-about concept took place in 2011 to ensure the most appropriate design and to minimize project costs.

The study assessed traffic conditions at the intersection in consideration of the current and long-term needs of both the highway 50 and 60 road segments. Various intersection designs including signalized and roundabout traffic control were evaluated to determine the preferred alternative.

In August 2011 a multi-lane roundabout was selected as the recommended improvement measure for the intersection.

In December 2011, Dakota County and the City of Lakeville entered into a contract with a consultant to design a multi-lane roundabout at the intersection of Highways 50 & 60 and expand the 4-lane divided roadway section to the north and west to meet the existing roadway section on each highway.

Work on the preliminary engineering stages of the CSAH 50/CSAH 60 Roundabout Project started in December 2011.  The project information found here will be updated periodically throughout the preliminary and final design process.

The preliminary engineering phase of the project is expected to last until through November 2012.  This will include creating a layout of the proposed roundabout intersection at CSAH 50 and CSAH 60, along with the necessary roadway approach work on CSAH 50 and CSAH 60.

During the late spring/early summer period, a public outreach process will also commence.  This process will serve as an opportunity to provide directly impacted parties, the associated agencies (Dakota County and Lakeville), and the general public with a variety of information about the project.  Included in this process will be education and driver information for individuals that will be navigating through this multi-lane roundabout intersection.

Approximate Project timeline:
