Paving
This year Dakota County will rehabilitate approximately 20 miles of pavement. The 2011 overlays include work on the following roads:
- County Road 5 from County Road 46 to 143rd St. in Lakeville and Burnsville
- County Road 9 from Hayes Ave. to County Road 23 in Lakeville
- County Road 9 from east of County Road 23 to County Road 31 in Lakeville
- County Road 11 from County Road 38 to TH 13 in Burnsville and Apple Valley
- County Road 47 from TH 3 to south of County Road 86 in Waterford and Sciota Townships
- County Road 47 from County Road 79 to TH 50 in Castle Rock and Hampton Townships and Hampton
- County Road 56 from TH 52 to Corcoran Path in Inver Grove Heights
- County Road 73 from County Road 28 to County Road 26 in Inver Grove Heights
Most of the time, pavement rehab is accomplished by overlaying the existing roadway with a new layer of asphalt. Occasionally, it is necessary to grind away an inch or two of existing pavement before placing the top layer of asphalt. This process is called a “mill and overlay.” Both the overlay and mill and overlay are cost-effective solutions for extending the life of the pavement.
Other work as part of this Contract
- County Road 56 from Cahill Ave. to Old Concord Blvd. in Inver Grove Heights
A trail will be constructed along the south and east sides of County Road 56. This trail is a segment of the Mississippi River Regional Trail system.
