The Mississippi River Regional Trail (MRRT) will be a paved trail that will eventually connect South St Paul and Hastings. The trail is intended for non-motorized uses such as hiking, biking, and in-line skating. A 2-mile section of the MRRT is being constructed from County Road 26 (70th Street) in Inver Grove Heights to Richmond Street in South St Paul. This segment will connect to the section of MRRT in Inver Grove Heights that is being constructed as part of the County Road 56 project. Construction began on Monday, July 27, 2009.
