Cedar Avenue will be closed between 147th Street and 145th Street from 10 p.m. on Friday, May 18 until 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 19 for water main and sanitary sewer work crossing Cedar Avenue. All traffic will be detoured.
The existing signal system will be removed and the new signal system will be activated at Cedar Avenue and 150th Street (County Road 42) during the week of May 21. The signal system will be on flashing red (all-way stop) at various times during the week, and temporary lane closures will be needed to complete this work.
Milling and paving operations along northbound and southbound Cedar Avenue from 155th Street/Whitney Drive to 147th Street are scheduled for May 22 – 25 in preparation for the upcoming traffic switch. The signal systems in this area will be on flashing red (all-way stop) at various times, and temporary lane closures/lane shifts will be needed to complete this work. Major delays are expected.
The business entrances along Cedar Avenue between 153rd Street and 147th Street will experience temporary closures for short durations during the milling and paving operations scheduled for May 22 – 25.
The road closure on 143rd Street west of Cedar Avenue is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, weather permitting. Traffic will be detoured on this day. Additional road work will be completed under traffic on May 24 – 25. This road will not have a paved surface for several weeks.
Additional temporary lane closures may occur throughout the entire project area, except during the following times:
- Northbound Cedar Avenue – morning rush hour
- Southbound Cedar Avenue – afternoon rush hour
Northbound and southbound Cedar Avenue are reduced to two thru lanes of traffic in each direction from 155th Street/Whitney Drive to south of Upper 136th Street. These lane closures will continue into the summer.
Work impacting the Apple Valley Transit Station continues. Please check the MVTA website for current bus stop information along Cedar Avenue.
The sidewalks along Cedar Avenue between 140th Street and 157th Street may be closed during construction. Please follow the posted detours.
Speed limits may be reduced in the work zone. Please don’t go around barriers into construction zones.
Upcoming Access Changes
The lane closures on Cedar Avenue from north of 155th Street/Whitney Drive to south of 147th Street are scheduled to switch from the outside lanes to the inside lanes on Wednesday, May 30. The signal systems at 153rd Street and 150th Street (County Road 42) may be on flashing red (all-way stop) on May 30 beginning at 9 a.m. so each system can be adjusted for this traffic switch. Expect major delays. Once the switch is complete, traffic will be on the outside lanes and the inside lanes will be closed so work can be done in and around the median. The lane closures on Cedar Avenue from south of 147th Street to south of Upper 136th Street will remain unchanged at this time.
Beginning Wednesday, May 30, thru traffic on eastbound and westbound 150th Street (County Road 42) will be reduced to one lane from Granada Avenue to west of Garrett Avenue. The right turn lanes onto Cedar Avenue will be closed at this time; however, right turns will be allowed from the thru lane. Truck traffic will not be permitted to make a right turn onto Cedar Avenue. These closures will remain in place for several weeks. Work on the left lanes is expected to occur during mid to late June after work on the right lanes is complete.
