The Robert Street Corridor connects Rosemount to downtown St. Paul. Currently, an estimated 129,000 vehicles cross the Mississippi River at the Lafayette and Robert Street Bridges every weekday.
Forecasts indicate the population in the corridor will grow by 30 percent and employment will grow about 40 percent by 2030. That means a lot more vehicles and a need for increased transit options.
Dakota County—along with cities, Ramsey County, residents and businesses—has investigated the benefits of improved transit services and facilities in the Robert Street Corridor. Many different transit modes and alternative routes are being considered.
Transit modes being considered include light rail transit, commuter rail, bus rapid transit, modern street car and upgrade bus service. Transit in the Robert Street Corridor is not limited to just Robert Street. There are many different options for transit routes in the area, including Hwy. 52, Hwy. 55, Robert Street and existing railroad corridors.
