Summary of Response to H1N1 Pandemic

In April 2009, public health agencies across the United States became aware of the threat posed by a new variant of H1N1 influenza virus. On April 27, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) declared a public health emergency. These events triggered a series of actions in Dakota County that tested the emergency plans and response skills of Public Health staff and community partners.

Public Health has developed a one-page summary that highlights the key areas of the response, including activation of the Department Operations Center, vaccination clinics, collaboration with health care providers and other community organizations, distribution of antiviral medications and personal protective equipment, and the impact in Minnesota and Dakota County.
