Discharge Document (DD 214) or Military Service Records
 
Military personnel records can be used for proving military service or as a valuable tool in genealogical research.   Most veterans and their next-of-kin can obtain free copies of their DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) and other military and medical records several ways:
  1. eVetRecs
  2. Standard Form SF-180
  3. Contact Dakota County Veteran Services
  4. The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs maintains discharges for the following veterans:
      • Minnesota WWII veterans who applied for the state bonus
      • Minnesota Korean veterans who applied for the state bonus
      • Minnesota Vietnam veterans who applied for the state bonus
      • Veterans who were discharged from active duty after 1980 and requested that a copy of the DD214 be sent to the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs
