Military personnel records can be used for proving military service or as a valuable tool in genealogical research. Most veterans and their next-of-kin can obtain free copies of their
DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) and other military and medical records several ways:
- eVetRecs
- Standard Form SF-180
- Contact Dakota County Veteran Services
- The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs maintains discharges for the following veterans:
- Minnesota WWII veterans who applied for the state bonus
- Minnesota Korean veterans who applied for the state bonus
- Minnesota Vietnam veterans who applied for the state bonus
- Veterans who were discharged from active duty after 1980 and requested that a copy of the DD214 be sent to the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs
