There are many programs to help people with their food needs, such as emergency food help, Expedited Food Support, Food Support (formerly called Food Stamps) and Minnesota Food Assistance. Programs are also available for pregnant women, families with young children, and seniors.
The Food Support program provides help to purchase food products. The program issues electronic food support benefits that can be spent like cash in most food stores. The amount of food support you receive is dependent upon your income and household expenses. You may be able to get food support within 24 hours if you meet expedited criteria. More information about these programs is available from the
Minnesota Department of Human Services.
Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a child under age five, may qualify for
WIC (Women, Infants, and Children Program). WIC is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program to help keep low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 healthy.
The USDA also offers the
Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CFSP) that includes the Mothers and Children (MAC) Program and the Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS). These programs offer healthy and nutritious commodity food products each month at no cost to eligible individuals.
