State of Minnesota Health Care Programs
The Minnesota Department of Human Services ensures basic health care coverage for low-income Minnesotans through four major publicly subsidized health care assistance programs: MinnesotaCare, Medical Assistance (MA), General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC), the Prescription Drug Program and other Medicare-related programs.

MinnesotaCare
MinnesotaCare is a subsidized health insurance program for Minnesota families and adults who do not have access to affordable health care coverage. To be eligible one must be: a permanent resident of Minnesota not covered by any other health insurance during the last 4 months, ineligible for Medical Assistance, unable to get employer-paid (50% or more) health insurance for the last 18 months, and income guideline eligible.

Medical Assistance (MA)
Medical Assistance is Minnesota’s Medicaid program for low-income families with children under the age of 21, parents or relative caretakers of dependent children, pregnant women, people who are 65 or older and people who have a disability. There are income and asset limits.

General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC)
General Assistance Medical Care is for low-income adults, ages 21-64, who have no dependent children under age 18 and who do not qualify for federal health care programs. There are income and asset limits.

Other Programs Available through Dakota County Employment and Economic Assistance provide financial assistance including cash, healthcare coverage, food support, childcare assistance, emergency help and coordinates the Refugee Assistance program.
