WIC is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program to help keep low-income women, infants and children up to age 5 healthy. It provides nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.
WIC provides:
- Nutrition advice
- Access to healthy foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, whole grains, infant foods, cereals and more
- Special counseling for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers
- Information about other services
- Referrals to health care
Clinic locations
WIC clinic sites are located in Hastings, Apple Valley, and West St. Paul. Check the WIC benefits pick up schedule for days and times.
Program qualifications
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a child under age 5, you may qualify for WIC. Go to the Minnesota Department of Health website to see if you qualify. Dakota County residents can call 952-891-7525.
To sign up for WIC, you need to come to a certification appointment and bring proof of ID, address and income.
Setting up an appointment
Appointments are scheduled for the same day you call. Call early, as appointments fill quickly. Phones open at 8 a.m., Monday–Friday.
Appointments needing an interpreter (other than Spanish) may be scheduled up to one week in advance. Spanish appointments are scheduled for the same day you call.
When coming in for an appointment, try to arrive five minutes early. We cannot see you for an appointment if you are 10 or more minutes late.
