It is our intention to be not only in full compliance with all applicable equal opportunity, affirmative action and nondiscrimination laws, rules, regulations and guidelines, but also to promote this policy through a continuing program of positive practices. These positive practices are specifically designed to ensure the full realization of the principles of equality without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, creed, age, marital status, sexual orientation, status with regard to public assistance or status as disabled. The Dakota County Board of Commissioners expects each employee to cooperate to achieve this goal and each Commissioner personally stands behind these principles. The following are diversity practices at Dakota County.
Specialized Recruitment
We participate in a variety of specialized recruitment activities designed to attract a more diverse applicant pool. These activities include occupationally specific job fairs and events designed to identify and attract persons of color and women into jobs where they are underrepresented.
Expanded Certification
Expanded certification is a mechanism that provides additional names of underrepresented group members to departments seeking to fill vacancies. Consistent with the provisions of our Affirmative Action Plan, if the normal certification process fails to certify available and qualified protected group candidates, departments are provided with the names of up to two additional protected group candidates for consideration.
