Adopt-a-Park position description
Summary: Assist Dakota County Parks' staff in maintaining the parks to provide an exceptional experience for all visitors. This opportunity is designed for groups and families.  

Location: Any Dakota County operated park or trail. The following locations are AVAILABLE for adoption:
  • Thompson County Park, West St. Paul
  • Lake Byllesby Regional Park, Cannon Falls
  • Spring Lake Park Reserve, Hastings/Rosemount
    • Lower Spring Lake Park, Archery Trailhead
  • sections of the Mississippi River Regional Trail, South St. Paul to Inver Grove Heights
  • sections of the North urban Regional Trail, South St. Paul to Mendota Heights

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and conduct at least one park clean-up or improvement project per season
  • Pick up litter and debris in selected park location
  • Place filled trash bags at the predetermined collection sites
  • Schedule and conduct at least one park clean-up or improvement project per season
  • Identify and report inappropriate park use to Parks Department
  • Represent Dakota County in a positive manner and be a role model to park visitors 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Schedule and conduct at least one park clean-up or improvement project per season
  • Volunteers must wear gloves and closed-toe shoes while volunteering; boots are recommended
  • Volunteers must review safety procedures and special clean-up instructions before each clean-up to become aware of the hazards and needed precautions of work
  • Limit work to the designated area
  • If service is done as a group, one individual must be designated as the group representative and liaison to Dakota County
  • Minimum age: 10 years. Adequate supervision required for volunteers under age 18

Time Commitment:  Minimum commitment - one year

Timeframe: Adopt-a-Park/Trail opportunities may begin at any time. Clean-ups should be conducted at least once seasonally or as needed.
