Q.  Where can I find Minnesota state statutes?
A.  Several places. 
  • On the internet, go to Minnesota Statutes.  If you know the number of the statute you need, you can search for it.  If you know the general topic, you can search the statutes using key words.
  • Print versions of the Minnesota Statutes are available in both branches of the Law Library, as well as in all branches of the Dakota County Public Library.
  • Print versions of the Minnesota Statutes Annotated are available in both branches of the Law Library, and in the Westcott (Eagan) branch of the Dakota County Public Library.

Q.  Where do I find city and county ordinances?
A.  Go to  Dakota County Ordinances and Minnesota Ordinances Online
Note:  Not all cities and counties have put their ordinances online.  The law library in  Hastings is a depository for ordinances of the municipalities within Dakota County.
 
Q. Where can I find court rules?
A.  You can find Minnesota state court rules on Minnesota Judicial Branch website. The law libraries also have print versions of the rules.

Q. Where can I find Minnesota state case law?
A. Several places.

  • Minnesota state appellate cases (back to 1996) can be found on the Minnesota Judicial Branch website.
  • Print case reporters covering all dates are available at the law library in Hastings.
  • Print case reporters covering the 1980s to present are available at the law library in Apple Valley.
  • Both libraries have access to Minnesota case law online via Lexis and Westlaw.

A. On the Minnesota State Legislature's website.
