Bloomington Day Care Provider and Daughter Sentenced in Death of 22-Month-Old
[January 28, 2010] Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Doris Denise Meeks, age 49, and Harmony Shavon Newman, age 22, both of Bloomington, were sentenced by Hennepin County District Court Judge Mary S. DuFresne for Manslaughter in the Second Degree (while committing child neglect) in connection with a death of a 22-month-old boy as a result of an incident that occurred in Meeks’ Bloomington home day care on August 28, 2008. Meeks received a sentence of 57 months to the Commissioner of Corrections and Newman received a sentence of 48 months to the Commissioner of Corrections.
