Juvenile Gender Specific Program

Dakota County’s Gender Specific Program addresses the unique needs of high-risk female offenders in a residential setting with 10-, 30-, 60-, 90-, or 120-day options.

Gender specific programming helps to meet girls’ unique needs, promoting positive self-image and developing a sense of possibility by focusing strengths and assets.  Issues that are addressed through comprehensive, integrated and culturally relevant services include substance abuse, trauma and mental health.

Offenders participate in curriculum designed to teach life skills, including better decision making which offers self-discovery and empowerment for girls, outpatient chemical dependency treatment, therapy with a gender specific and trauma informed therapist, a mental health screen, individualized case plans for offenders staying more than five days, and education.
