Hunting is prohibited in Dakota County Parks by Ordinance 107, with the exception of controlled deer hunts as approved by the County Board.
Dakota County has managed deer populations in its parks by using controlled hunts since 1995. Controlling deer populations contributes to natural reforestation and reduces damage to agricultural crops and landscaping.
Reducing deer populations also improves the parks’ habitat for other wildlife that benefit from diverse ground and shrub layer plants. Other reasons for controlling the number of deer include reducing deer-car collisions and preventing the spread of deer-borne diseases.

Hunter Orientation
The hunt orientation meeting is no longer mandatory. However, if you are selected to hunt, an online training orientation must be completed.

The eastern portion of Spring Lake Park Reserve (Schaar's Bluff) is not included in the County authorized deer hunt, and will remain open regular park hours.
