The wild in bloom
Monarch butterflies, sunflowers and butterfly weed – Dakota County Parks are filled with wildlife and wild flowers. Check out your nearest county park to see all the natural beauty.
The monarchs have made their annual appearance, feeding on a variety of milkweed flowers at Lebanon Hills Regional Park. They will soon lay their eggs, which grow into hungry caterpillars. Grasshoppers and cicada are also reaching adulthood and hiding in the goldenrod and sunflowers.
It’s a great time to see all the plants at the restored prairies at Lebanon Hills Regional Park and Spring Lake Park Reserve. Plants such as butterfly weed and butterfly bush are in full bloom. You can see wild flowers in a variety of colors, including black-eyed susans, sunflowers, white wild indigo and golden alexander.
This and other great outdoor activities are available. Get out and enjoy what the parks have to offer.
