Did You Know?

Hastings was not the first county seat of Dakota County. The county seat was first established in Kaposia in 1853. It was later moved to Mendota in 1854 before finally coming to Hastings in 1857. Hastings was originally called Oliver’s Grove or Olive Grove for a band of soldiers who stayed there over the winter of 1819-1820.
