Keep the kiddos busy with free art programs

​Kids don’t have school this Thursday and Friday. Keep them busy with programs with ArtStart.

ArtStart is an award-winning, nonprofit arts organization dedicated to providing quality arts education for children and adults. Since its inception, ArtStart has initiated a number of innovative programs and projects that focus on the link between the arts and the environment.

Masks and Shakers with ArtStart
Thursday, Oct. 17, 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Heritage Register now
Make a mask and shaker of your favorite animal with colorful discards, markers and more. Registration required.  Ages: 6–12.

Gourd Art of South America with ArtStart
Thursday, Oct. 17, 1–3 p.m., Inver Glen  Register now
Use paint, markers and other materials and work with an artist to create your very own decorative gourd shaker. Registration required.  Ages: 6–12.

Drums of West Africa with ArtStart
Thursday, Oct. 17, 2−4 p.m., Wescott  Register now
Learn how to make music on authentic African drums with master drummer Ghana Mbaqye from Senegal, and how to  dance to the African rhythm.  Registration required.  Ages: 10–16.

Junk Paleontology with ArtStart
Thursday, Oct. 17, 2–4 p.m., Wentworth Register now
Friday, Oct. 18, 2–4 p.m., Wescott Register now
Work with an artist to create your own Junkosaurus using a lot of junk and your wild imagination. Registration required. Ages: 6–12.
