Mississippi River Regional Trail construction to close airfield
Construction of the 4.4-mile segment of the Mississippi River Regional Trail will include a 6-acre rock processing and storage site located at the existing model airfield site on Schaar’s Bluff. The model airfield will be available to flyers until around Oct. 1, 2014. Find out more about the trail project.
The rock processing site will be active through project completion in spring 2016. Contractors will have up to three years to remove material from the site and restore it to its original condition. It is unknown when the site will be available for public use.
A future relocated flying field
Park staff will help model airplane flyers relocate the airfield. A preliminary GIS analysis of potential suitable model airfield sites has been completed. Staff is scheduling a meeting with a representative group of flyers to discuss their interests in Dakota County, assisting them with the potential relocation of the airfield.
Dakota County Parks will keep current pass holders updated regarding the current season as the relocation process. Information will also be posted on this web page when it becomes available.
Purchasing a pass
A season pass is required to use this facility. A daily pass is not available. Find out more about a season pass.
