Voter Accessibility

Page Content

There are many ways to get help when you vote. You can bring someone to help, ask an election judge, use a machine to help you mark your ballot or even vote from your car.

Curbside voting

If you cannot easily leave your vehicle to enter the polling place, you can ask to have a ballot brought out to you. This is known as 'curbside voting.'

Two election judges from different major political parties will bring out a ballot to your vehicle. If you need to register or update your registration, they will bring you an application as well.

When you are finished voting, election judges will bring your ballot inside for you and put it in the ballot box.

For curbside voting options, please call 651-438-4305.

Help from election judges

Election judges are there to help you through the entire process of voting.

If you need help marking your ballot, two election judges from different political parties can assist. They are not allowed to influence your choices or tell others how you voted.

Ballot marking machines

Each polling place must include a voting system that is accessible for individuals with disabilities according to the Help America Vote Act of 2002. The accessible voting system provides a zoomed in or out version of the ballot, an audio ballot, and high contrast version of the ballot.

We work to preserve the integrity, privacy and dignity of voters with accessibility needs by:

  • A single unit to service all voters, featuring an integrated printer for ballot marking.  The ImageCast Evolution is the only optical scan tabulator using a single ballot paper path which does not require voters to mark their ballot on a separate device.
  • Randomized oval marking patterns and writing make the machine-marked ballots indistinguishable from hand-marked ballots, ensuring voter privacy.
  • Integrated privacy shield and screen cover.
