Turning yourself in voluntarily will deactivate the warrant immediately. You then can post bail or bond, or you may be released on your own recognizance, if permitted by the court, and remain out-of-custody until your scheduled court date. All others will remain in custody until the next available, appropriate court calendar.
Where to turn yourself in
Court locations
Adults with an active arrest warrant can also turn themselves in during the business hours of 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. to one of the following locations:
City law enforcement agencies
If you have an active arrest warrant, you can turn yourself in 24 hours a day, seven days a week to any of the 11 local city law enforcement agencies in Dakota County.
Dakota County Sheriff's Office
You can also surrender to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office located at the Law Enforcement Center. When surrendering directly to the Law Enforcement Center in Dakota County, turn yourself in before 4 a.m., Monday through Thursday (excluding holidays), to reduce the likelihood of being held in custody for more than 24 hours.
Longer processing times at law enforcement agencies than courts
If you turn yourself in at the Court locations, you will be allowed to post bail or bond — if that is an option — and released.
If you turn yourself into the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, you will be taken into custody and processed to confirm identification before you can post bail or bond. This process includes being fingerprinted and photographed and could take several hours.
