Burnhaven Library in Burnsville is the second Dakota County Library location to offer Self-Service Hours.
Registered customers can now access the library from 6 a.m.–11 p.m., seven days a week, including holidays. That's an additional 55 hours of library access outside normal staffed hours.
Burnhaven joins Farmington Library as the two Dakota County Library locations with Self-Service Hours. The library plans to expand it to more locations throughout 2024.
Individuals 18 years and older can sign up for Self-Service Hours online to independently use the Burnhaven and Farmington locations without staff present. Registered users can access computers, reserve and use meeting rooms, check out books and movies, and more.
Security cameras have been installed throughout the library to offer customers peace of mind. All existing library policies must be followed, and registered customers are responsible for their guests.
Community response has been overwhelmingly positive to the added hours. Nearly 500 library users have registered for Self-Service Hours since January 2023. Farmington Library has seen 8,498 visits during Self-Service Hours.
