Dakota County has partnered with Living Longer and Stronger in West St. Paul, a nonprofit, to help older residents continue to live independently in their community.
The county and the local nonprofit created the West St. Paul Age-Friendly Action Plan using feedback from more than 200 residents who participated in a community survey in 2024.
The plan includes recommendations across eight areas to improve health and quality of life. Ideas range from improving accessible housing to promoting public transportation information, including Dakota County transit resources. The plan's eight focus areas are:
- Outdoor spaces and buildings
- Transportation
- Housing
- Social participation
- Respect and social inclusion
- Civic participation and employment
- Communication and information
- Community support and health services
People who live or work in West St. Paul are inviting to participate in monthly Living Longer and Stronger virtual meetings to share ideas, connect with neighbors and help create a community where people of all ages can thrive. Meetings are held on Microsoft Teams the third Thursday of each month from 1–2 p.m.
