Goats will be used to control invasive species in the parks this summer. Between March and September, a herd of 50-70 goats will be in the Discovery Loop near Lebanon Hills Visitor Center. Another herd will be rotating between Camp Sacajawea Retreat Center and Whitetail Woods Regional Park.
When the goats are present, a temporary electrified fence will be installed to keep them contained.
Dakota County Parks is contracting with Diversity Landworks. The project is funded by the Minnesota Outdoor Heritage Fund and Dakota County.
Goats eat undesirable plants
The goats will eat undesirable plants. Once they eat the vegetation within their fenced in area, they will be moved to a new area. Guests should not feed the goats.
Goats have access to fresh water, or it is provided to them when needed.
Don't distract the goats
Please enjoy the goats from a distance and do not attempt to feed or pet them. They're working hard, so please don't distract them.
