This charming 57-acre park provides a quiet getaway in the midst of West St. Paul. The park features a large picnic area that overlooks Thompson Lake and miles of wooded trails that connect to the River to River Greenway —​ a trail system that links Thompson County Park to Kaposia Park in South St. Paul and to the Mississippi River Greenway.

Thompson County Park is also the home of the Dakota Lodge — a four-season event center that is perfect for weddings, reunions, meetings, banquets, retreats, parties and much more.​​

Temporary tr​ail closure

A portion of the Lake Loop will be closed starting Wednesday, Oct. 1. It will reopen  Friday, Oct. 3. Please follow all posted signage and keep out of construction area.​​

Butler Avenu​e construction

Beginning Monday, July 7, Thompson County Park access will be impacted by construction on Butler Avenue (County Road 4). Butler Avenue will be reduced to the eastbound lane only. Park visitors will not be able to access from Highway 52 along Butler Avenue and will be detoured to ​Wentworth​ Avenue​ to access from the west. View Butler Avenue project page​.

Trail closure ​through spring 2026

The paved trail on the west side of the park connecting Thompson Lake and the River to River Greenway is closed for the Pollinator Promenade and Stream Restoration project. It will be closed through spring 2026. 

Access to the River to River Greenway is available using the paved trail by the Thompson Park Center. Please follow all construction and detour signage and keep out of construction area. View Pollinator Promenade project page.
