Food & Yard Waste

Residential Compost Sites

Residents that bag their yard waste for drop-off at a compost site must use paper or compostable plastic bags, or a reusable bag or a container that you take home.

Residents may drop off both food and yard waste at the sites listed below. Call first for fees, days, hours, and materials accepted.

The Mulch Store
16454 Blaine Ave., Empire
Year-round drop off is available. Food/organics must be separate from yard waste.

SMSC Organics Recycling Facility
1905 Canterbury Rd., Shakopee
Year-round drop off is available. Tree waste and brush is not accepted from Dakota County to prevent the spread of emerald ash borer.

Residents may drop off yard waste only at the sites listed below. Call first for fees, days, hours, and materials accepted.

Open seasonally for yard and tree waste.
Products available for sale: landscape mulch, compost, and soil.

Hastings Yard Waste Drop-off and Transfer Site
(For Hastings Residents Only )
2800 Millard Ave., at east end of Industrial Park

Year-round drop-off is available at the brick yard.  Call first.

Gertens R.E.S. Facility

805 Yankee Doodle Rd., Eagan
Sells landscape quality dirt and mulches.
Open seasonally. Call first.

OTI Yard and Tree Waste
1021 W. Black Dog Road, Burnsville
OTI is located within the Freeway Transfer Site.

South St. Paul Compost Site
681 Verderosa Ave., South St. Paul
Only accepts leaves, grass, sod and garden waste. Does not accept brush, twigs and branches.
