Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Melanie Sue Parkin, age 36, of South St. Paul, has been charged* with two counts of Aggravated Robbery in the 1st Degree in connection with two armed robberies of a West St. Paul Walgreens store which occurred on December 12, 2016 and January 14, 2017.
In both of these robberies, the suspect displayed a black handgun and demanded Oxycodone pain medication. Charges have also been filed in Washington County against Parkin for the armed robbery of a Woodbury Walgreens store. Parkin is a special education teacher for South St. Paul schools.

Backstrom commented: "This appears to be another crime of violence associated with a chemical addiction in our community."
Parkin made her first appearance in court today and bail in the amount of $75,000 without conditions ($50,000 with conditions) was set by Dakota County District Court Judge Michael Baxter. Ms. Parkin’s next court appearance is set for March 16, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. in Hastings.
