Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Jacob Andrew Bertrand, age 35, who is an ordained Catholic priest currently on a leave of absence from the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego, California, pled guilty yesterday to one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Third Degree in connection with alleged sexual penetration of a woman occurring in June or July of 2010 in Dakota County. As part of the plea agreement, the second count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Third Degree will be dismissed. The sexual conduct occurred while Bertrand was providing a private mass for the victim in the basement of her parent’s home in Mendota Heights.

Backstrom said that Dakota County District Court Judge Karen Asphaug ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set Bertrand’s sentencing for May 7, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in Hastings.
