Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom and Dakota County Sheriff Tim Leslie announced that Aziz Holmes, age 23 of Brooklyn Center, was charged* on March 6, 2018 with one count of Assault in the 4th Degree of a Peace Officer (a felony) in connection with an assault of a Dakota County Correctional Deputy at the Dakota County Jail in Hastings, Minnesota.
A summary of the allegations contained in the criminal complaint filed March 6, 2018 is set forth below:
On March 3, 2018, a correctional officer was on duty working his assigned shift in the Dakota County Jail in Hastings, Minnesota. The officer escorted Holmes to take a shower. The officer was escorting Holmes back to his cell when Holmes turned around and punched the officer three to four times in the face with a closed fist. The officer was able to take Holmes down to the ground and restrain him. The officer sustained swelling and a laceration to his face. The officer obtained medical treatment as a result of the assault.
