Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Nicholas Orion Carlson, age 35 of Farmington, has been charged* with Attempted Second Degree Murder (with intent to kill), Assault in the First Degree (resulting in great bodily harm), and Assault in the Second Degree (with a dangerous weapon/substantial bodily harm) in connection with a non-fatal shooting of a 25-year-old female in Farmington.

Backstrom commented: "This appears to be another case of domestic violence that almost took a life in our community. We wish the victim well in her recovery from this violent crime."
Backstrom thanked the Farmington Police Department for their thorough investigation into this matter. Backstrom also thanked the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Farmington Fire Department, Lakeville, Apple Valley, Burnsville Police Departments and the Dakota County Mutual Aid Assistance Group who for their help with this case.
Carlson made his first appearance on these charges today and bail in the amount of $1,000,000 without conditions and $500,000 with conditions was set by Dakota County District Court Judge Jerome Abrams. Mr. Carlson’s next court appearance is set for October 19, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in Hastings.
