Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced that Jason Michael Slattum, age 42 of Hastings, was sentenced late today to 114 months in prison by Judge Tim Wermager in connection with providing the heroin that caused the drug overdose death of Michelle Cahill, age 50 from Hastings, on July 11, 2020. Slattum pled guilty to one count of Murder in the Third Degree in October of 2021.

Keena expressed her sympathy to the family and friends of Ms. Cahill. Keena thanked Assistant County Attorney Chris Zielinski who prosecuted the case. Keena praised the Hastings Police Department and the Dakota County Drug Task Force for their investigation into this tragic death.
